School Psychiatry Services

  • The main goal of school psychiatry services is to form an interdisciplinary team of clinicians to evaluatechildren in schoolsettings to improve individual academic success. We are there as part of the evaluation and to connect families to resources and act as a liaisons to pediatricians. These teams also support teachers in the classroom with instruction to best teach and managestudents who are struggling.

The Process of Psychiatric Referrals

  • School/ WBT therapist refers a student via Google form

  • WBT therapist screens the student using the Youth Internalizing & Externalizing Problems Survey (YIEPS) to screen for risk level and assesses candidacy for in-school Tier II Services

  • If screener qualifies student for psychiatric referral, case manager will begin consent form process with caregivers

  • Case manager facilitates communication with psychiatric team to clarify evaluation process and answer questions (*please allow 3-4 weeks for evaluation completion)

  • Psychiatric team begins assessment with student, school staff, and family

  • Psychiatry measures student functional challenges through CAFAS assessment

  • Psychiatry evaluation outlined in a report and provided to school, family, and outside follow-up providers

  • Psychiatry follows up in the school every 3 months
